air de nouveau york series

The work of French avant-garde artist, Marcel Duchamp, has fascinated me since I was in my teens. This series is inspirited by his 55cc air de paris at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Duchamp’s 1919 work is an empty ampoule purchased from a pharmacy in Paris which he suspended in the air and called ready-made art. I am using Venetian vintage glass beads and Ghanaian contemporary powder glass beads suspending them on fish line often used to hang paintings in galleries. In some by combining the glass beads with Cambrian Period fossils and African beads, the look is intended to be lopsided and whimsical.
